Having endured plenty of Speed Racer, I appreciate the insight provided by this song.  Speed is definitely the kind of guy I wanted to be when I grew up.  He knew how to crash.  He always bounced back.  He rarely led the race, but most always won.  He was metrosexual when metrosexual wasn't cool.  For that matter, metrosexuality still isn't considered cool--which shows what kind of badass he really was, sash and all.  Trixie was kind of metrosexual too.  I always wondered--

But I digress...  I like to imagine some girl springing that line on me: "you're not the ONLY one who used to watch Speed Racer!"  What kind of girl talks like that?  Is there any suitable response?  Sure, you can counter with the always effective: "I love you!"  But then she hits back with "that sucker-fish shit," and you're fucked.

Yes, I freely admit that my personal philosophy is partly (rightly or wrongly has nothing to do with it) based on the formalisms of Speed's races.  Any girl with a good enough eye to see such nuance would be pretty good looking in my book.   Subtleties like that just don't occur in life.  Niether do they occur in art, or music, generally speaking.   Leave it to Liz Phair.  Hand it to her as well.

Speed Racer is one of my favorite songs.  It is the perfect song to say, "just go away, I don't like you." And Sped Racer is the perfect example.  I just wish the song were longer...
