Thanks to Gevaudan and Jeremy Engle, both of whom submitted copies of this cover "art" indepedently of each other.  These lovely graphics come from an original set of Girly Sound tapes -- the same tapes that Ken Lee & Gevaudan were able to copy and make public in Spring 2006.

Very intriguing.  NOT what I expected.  Not very girly.  Maybe that's the idea?

Would someone please tell me what the fuck the Yo Yo Buddy thing is all about?

Something else of interest...  When Gevauden sent these graphics over, he pointed out that the GGG photo is from the same set eventually used for the cover art on Whip Smart.

Hmm... The photo from the Girls Girls Girls tape is from the same set as the photos that look like they were from the same set in the Exile in Guyville liner notes. They're pretty easy to spot. I don't see any connection to the Polaroid from the Whip-smart cover...

That was the first thing that I  noticed that about the girls girls girls tape, too.
I also noticed that the font on GGG matches the "RIGHT" from the back of Exile In Guyville.
It's nice to finally see the cover art for the Girly Sound tapes-I wonder why no one shared these  sooner?
It's not quite what I would've expected, either.
Seeing these homemade tape covers just makes it that much harder to reconciliate the artist who created them with Liz's current pop incarnation.
It's tragic, really.
ps- i love the "Everything in your hand by Liz Phair" copyright slogan

I expected her cover art to be "prettier" than this.  The Yo Yo graphic is very disturbing.  I'd like to think that it's supposed to be a cigarette, or possibly a joint, ala the Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill cover (the flipside cover art).  But then Phair's graphic art, what little I've seen, trends toward the gruesome.

This thread managed to get buried (imagine that?).

I'm putting a sticky on this thread so that it doesn't happen again.  The cover art is one of the really valuable things about this forum.

I've been meaning to create a Girly Sound web page that had the original cover art included.  This is what was missing from the wikipedia page.

This is what I came up with:  here.

Let me know what you think.

I'm thinking of adding a column in the table that allows download of the songs from Girly Sound.

Please provide feedback.

A couple of things.

I noticed that when I rotated the cover art for Girls Girls Girls that it appears that someone made a mistake on the typewriter with the song soap star joe.  It appears that they started to type ant in alaska and then realized the mistake and used the eraser portion of the typewriter tape to wipe it out and then type soap star joe.  You can still see the "i" and the "a" in the spaces between soap and star and between the star and the joe.

Also, the most consistent way of saying Girly Sound on these covers is "Girly-Sound", not "Girly Sound".  There is a dash between Girly and Sound in 3 of the 4 places where it shows up.

I've been using the cover art for the myspace page.  That face on "Yo Yo Buddy..." seems perfect for the typical headshot.

I just hope it doesn't scare anybody off.
