The year 1967 seems to be coming up numerous times in conversation.  The summer of 1967 was called the summer of love.  There were a number of famous albums that were released that year.

The albums that I have from that year are:
  • The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
  • The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour
  • Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
  • The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed

According to amazon.com, the following are also important albums from that year:
  • Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced
  • Cream - Disraeli Gears
  • The Doors - The Doors
  • Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
  • Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
  • Procol Harum - Procol Harum
  • The Greatful Dead - The Greatful Dead
  • Janis Joplin - Big Brother And The Holding Company
  • Vanilla Fudge - Vanilla Fudge
  • Traffic - Mr. Fantasy
  • The Rolling Stones - Between the Buttons
  • The Byrds - Younger Than Yesterday
  • Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield Again
  • The Kinks - Something Else by The Kinks
  • Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding
  • Moby Grape - Moby Grape

Jamie was asking me the other day about the song "Groovin'".  It is by The Rascals and it was released in 1967.

Anyone else have any favorites from 1967?

That's quite a list, isn't it?

I'd have to add The Velvet Underground and Nico, also the Basement Tapes by Bob Dylan and the Band (recorded that summer but not released until 1975), and my favorite of the moment, Songs of Leonard Cohen.

I live in Michigan and there has been a lot of attention to the fortieth anniversary of the Detroit riots.  Interesting times, no doubt.

I've been thinking about getting some Velvet Underground.

There certainly was some interesting music in '67.

Feel free to create a list of important music from 1967.

It was a very important year for me.  We started out the year with a Christmas break trip to Washington DC.  We were living in the eastern part of North Carolina at the time.

My dad lost his job in the late March, early April time frame and packed up and moved back to Texas.  We moved back to east Texas (temporarily) where my grandparents lived during the summer.  My parents split up and my dad spent time in the mental hospital in Rusk.  My mother managed to get a job teaching graphics art down at one of the high schools in Corpus Christi, where her sister and family lived.

It was a pivotal year in my life and it changed my trajectory.
